Warranty Submission Guidelines for Outside Rearview Mirrors

When submitting outside rearview mirrors for replacement under warranty, please be aware of the following statement as printed in the General Motor New Vehicle Warranty.

“Lights, lenses, mirrors, paint, grill, moldings and trim are not covered for cracks, chips, scratches, dents, dings and punctures or tears as a result of impact with other objects or road hazards.”

 

Warrantable vs Non-Warrantable Conditions

Outside rearview mirrors are one of the only electro-mechanical items that reside on the exterior of a vehicle. This increased functionality and necessary mounting location exposes these components to both the environment and the possibility of physical damage from road hazards. Impact damage is not always readily apparent, or may result in a judgement call on your part when assisting the customer. This bulletin has been created to assist in identifying customer use that should be considered a warrantable condition, as well as outline conditions that are not acceptable.

Involved vehicles are identified on the Applicable Warranties section in GM Global Warranty Management system. This site should always be checked to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required inspections and/or repairs.

Condition: On some 2013-2017 model year Buick Encore or Chevrolet Trax vehicles equipped with All-Wheel Drive (RPO F46), over an extended period of time, road splash may enter the Rear Differential Clutch Control Module (RDCM) promoting internal corrosion of the module circuit board. This internal corrosion may create a loss of All-Wheel Drive function, or in rare cases, a dead battery or loss of power steering assist. A code 73 Driver Information Center (DIC) message (Chevrolet Trax), Service All-Wheel Drive System, or a Service Power Steering message, or indicator will illuminate.
Special Coverage Adjustment This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 6 years or 72,000 miles (116,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after December 22, 2017, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to December 22, 2017, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

Vehicle owners or lessees who paid for repairs referenced in this Special Coverage (“Customers”) are eligible for reimbursement of their reasonable and customary expenses in accordance with the procedures specified below. The conditional right to reimbursement is provided by GM solely in the interest of customer satisfaction and is personal to Customers. Customers may not assign and GM does not consent to any assignment of any Customer’s right to submit reimbursement claims, or to receive reimbursement, or any other rights granted by this Special Coverage to any third party, including but not limited to service contract providers, and this Special Coverage is not intended to and does not confer any third party beneficiary, subrogation or contribution rights, or any other rights to reimbursement, against GM, whether in law, equity or otherwise, on any third parties.

Correction Dealers are to confirm the above condition, then replace the RDCM and inspect associated wiring replacing the connector harness if required. These repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

Attention: This document replaces Corporate Bulletin Number 07-03-10-016C to inform Dealers of their responsibility to verify Cargo Carrying Capacity and update Consumer Labels as appropriate.

This Bulletin has been revised to add the 2014-2018 Model Years and update information under References. Please discard Bulletin 12-00-89-007.


The purpose of this bulletin is to notify Dealers who alter new vehicles, prior to first retail sale, of the obligation to update or replace the tire placard required by F/CMVSS 110 when the tire/wheel size has been changed, the tire pressure(s) have been changed or the cargo carrying capacity has been reduced and to remind Dealers of the vehicle implications and requirements that are the responsibility of the dealership.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires all new vehicles with a 10,000-lb (4536 kg) or less gross vehicle weight (mass) rating (GVWR) (passenger cars, light duty trucks and SUVs), that were manufactured after September 1, 2005 (i.e 2006 and newer model year vehicles), must have accurate consumer information as reflected on the Vehicle Placard Label (Tire and Loading Information Label) – tire size and pressures, cargo carrying capacity, and seating capacity. When not obtained in a kit, this overlay label is a pre-printed part that dealerships can order from service parts as required. Effective September 17, 2008 the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS 110) was aligned with the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS 110) and requires labelling to be bilingual (English/French) in Canada.

Improperly Fastened Toe Link Outer Ball Joint

A toe link separation can result in a reduction in vehicle stability and steering control, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

 

Summary

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles manufactured September 26, 2014, to October 2, 2014. In the affected vehicles the toe link outer ball joint on the rear suspension may not have been properly tightened during the assembly process. The Toe link may loosen with the vehicle use and eventually separate.

Condition Certain 2014-2017 model year Cadillac CTS vehicles were built with HVAC actuators that had two internal wire junctions assembled with solder that contained lead above the allowable guidelines set by end of life vehicle recyclability laws in Europe and Korea.
Correction Remove the non-compliant actuators and replace with compliant stock.
